How much do seeds cost?

Some are expensive; some are not. In 2003, Purple coneflower seeds cost more than $200 per acre. Plains coreopsis seeds cost $18.00 per acre. If a year’s harvest is good, the price drops; if it is bad, the price goes up. We like to mix at least five species. That stretches the money, lengthens bloom times and boosts the odds that at least one or two species will bloom in any given year.
