There are many native species of purple coneflower in Oklahoma and some are better suited than others to particular parts of the state.  This particular coneflower is found in the western 2/3 of Oklahoma and thrives in well-drained soils.  It is perennial and can grow to be 3 feet tall with dark green, hairy foliage and stems and is topped with pale to light purple flowers.
