Indian Blanket; Gaillardia pulchella

An herbaceous annual that is a member of the Sunflower family (Asteraceae), the Indian Blanket is also the state wildflower of Oklahoma and the official “mascot” of both Color Oklahoma and the Oklahoma Native Plant Society.  This colorful composite has 3-lobed ray florets that start at the base as deep red, change to red and orange and are then tipped in yellow.  The disk florets in the center are yellow and red. The Indian Blanket flowers typically from mid-spring into the summer months and flourishes in the western 2/3 of the state.
