Clasping Coneflower; Rudbeckia amplexicaulis

Another perennial of the Sunflower family; the clasping coneflower is found across Oklahoma from the northeast corner of the state to the southwest corner.  The flower of this plant is characterized by a tall, column-like head with brownish-red disk florets and ray florets that are mostly yellow with a touch of deep red at the base.  It can grow to be 3 feet tall and is often found in large stands along roadsides and in prairie meadows.
