Black-eyed Susan; Rudbeckia hirta
Photo by Martin van der Grinten @
USDA-NRCS Plants Database
A garden favorite, the black-eyed or brown-eyed
susan comes to us from the prairie. This
annual or perennial of the Sunflower family (Asteraceae) has brown disk florets
and golden-yellow ray florets. It
can grow to be 2 feet tall and blooms through much of the summer.
Once established, this showy plant will become more abundant each year.
