Frequently Asked Questions

The Oklahoma Native Plant Society proudly promotes Oklahoma’s wildflower license tag, a colorful tag highlighting the Gaillardia, Oklahoma’s official state wildflower.  Income from the tag adds eye-catching wildflowers to highway right of way and other highly visible public land throughout the state.  Order yours today!

How much does a tag cost?

$35 plus a $2 mailing fee.

Where will the money go?

State law requires that $20 of each $35 go to Color Oklahoma to buy wildflower seed, $8 reimburses the Tax Commission for processing and $7 goes to a safety education fund.

How did the new tag come about?

Color Oklahoma – Sow Some Wild Seeds, a project of the non-profit Oklahoma Native Plant Society, promoted legislation to create the tag as a way to raise money to add wildflowers to Oklahoma’s landscape. The legislation was in House Bill 1994, which the Legislature passed and Gov. Brad Henry signed into law in May of 2004.

How do I order a tag?

You can pick up a form at any tag agency or email a request to wildflowers@coloroklahoma.org and we will mail you one or more. Complete the application, write a check for $37 to the state Tax Commission and mail both to the Tax Commission. The $37 includes a $2 mail order fee. Most tag agencies will accept an application for the tag.

Do I need to order a new Color Oklahoma tag each year?

To keep the tag valid, you must buy a decal, similar to the one you buy for your regular tag. The decal will cost $35 and can be purchased at any tag agency.

How do I display my new tag?

Remove your current tag from the back of your vehicle and put your new Color Oklahoma tag in its place. You must keep your original tag in your vehicle, and you must renew your original tag each year as well.
